CALATHLETICUS
Calvin’s approach to bodywork attempts to strike a balance between operating through a clinical lens and navigating the human body through intuition and embodied wisdom. His methodology aims to be as precise and effective as possible. He has been investigating the world of biomechanics, strength and functional training, posture, rehabilitation, body awareness, mobility, and holistic health for well over a decade now.
He has an academic background in Neuroscience and Psychology from UofT (HBSc.), and is a graduate of Sutherland-Chan School of Massage in Ontario, Canada. His continuing studies have lead him into the world of Thai Massage, Wuo Tai (rooted in classical Osteopathy), as well as myriad of different approaches to conditioning and movement, such as calisthenics, kettlebell training, hand balance, rotational movement training, traditional martial arts, yoga, qigong, endurance training, and strength training.

My journey of discovering different modalities of understanding the human body was born out of a cycle of problem-solution orientation: areas in my body hurt, lacked mobility, had insufficient strength, etc., and something needed to be fixed, or improved upon. However, so much more was discovered in this process. Through movement, I started to learn how to quiet my mind and introspect. Inevitably this took me down a road of self-development in my early 20’s. It was a gradual process of waking up to the fact that all of my thoughts were an extrapolation of what other people’s opinions were. Genuinely realizing this was an experience that broke me, and continued to for a while; to admit to myself that I didn’t have a single original thought was a tough pill to swallow.
The following years were spent travelling, contemplating introspectively, discovering methods of seated meditation, breath work, qigong, and listening to lectures from various spiritual teachers. The combination of these experiences as well as my academic interests during my undergraduate years (Neuroscience, Natural Sciences, Psychology, Religion, Anthropology and Sociology) has given me somewhat of an understanding that it is pertinent to approach people from a space of presence and deep-understanding. I believe these things have shaped my intuitive lens and continue to influence my own health, wellness, and spiritual journey.
